Presentation
Networks are a central component of today's and tomorrow's society. The next frontier is the Internet of Everything (IoE), which will allow a continuous, real-time connection between things, people, and processes through a continuous flow of data. The IoE will include the Internet of Things (IoT), the Internet of People (IoP), and Industrial Internet (II), and Tactile Internet (Tactile Internet). This scenario requires a flexible network capable of supporting the different needs of current and future IoE applications. For this, the research community turns to the networks of the future involving initiatives such as Next Generation Internet (NGI) in Europe and Tomorrow's Internet Project in the United States and several other actions such as the next generation of mobile telecommunications networks for 2030, 6G. In Brazil, projects such as FIBER, FIWARE, FUTEBOL, 5GINFIRE, NECOS, carried out in collaborations between Europe and Brazil, create conditions to experience different networks and applications focusing on the future. Several technologies will enable this revolution, such as cloud, fog, and edge computing, software-defined networks and virtualization of network functions, virtualization and network slicing, software-defined infrastructure, advanced optical communications, and software-defined radios. In addition to these technologies, several artificial intelligence, engineering, and data science techniques will be the basis for the future's infrastructure, networks, and applications. In its twelfth edition, the Future Internet Research and Experimentation Workshop (WPEIF) aims to consolidate discussions and exchanges of information, knowledge, and experiences on experimental research related to the applications and networks of the future to create the next generation of tomorrow's networks. By discussing this topic with the community of computer networks and distributed systems, the Workshop seeks to be a beacon in this area of research that contains numerous challenges and opportunities.

Topics of Interest
WPEIF invites authors to submit original and innovative research papers, even if still in progress, related to the networks of the future, the infrastructures that will support them, and the future applications that will contribute to transforming our society. Topics of interest include a wide range of subjects, and the following list describes some examples:

  • Applications and Networks involving Cloud, Fog, and Edge Computing
  • Applications involving smart environments (Smart Cities, Smart Home, Smart Agriculture, Smart Industry, Smart Energy, Autonomous Driving, etc.)
  • Applications for the Future Internet and applications for the Internet of Things
  • Network Slicing
  • Software-Defined Infrastructures
  • New Applications built on new network architectures
  • New Network Architectures
  • New techniques, mechanisms, and algorithms related to aspects such as Security, Mobility, Network Management, QoS, and QoE
  • Research and experimental evaluations in different infrastructures such as PlanetLab, GENI, FIBER, FIRE, FIWARE, FOOTBALL, 5GINFIRE, and NECOS.
  • Next Generation of Optical Networks
  • Software Defined Radio (SDR)
  • Content Centered Network
  • Autonomous Networks
  • Software-Defined Networking (SDN)
  • Smart Grids
  • Mobile Networks beyond 5G and 6G Networks
  • Mobile Telecommunications Networks (5G)
  • Programmable Networks (OpenFlow, P4)
  • Software-defined Wireless Networks (SDWN)
  • Network Security
  • Network and Network Function Virtualization (NFV)

Information for authors
The submission of papers will be exclusively electronic through the JEMS system. Articles can be written in Portuguese or English, exclusively in PDF format. The text must contain up to six (6) pages, including the abstract (and "resumo" for articles in Portuguese), figures, diagrams, references, and attachments. Formatting should follow the SBC template.

The Workshop's program committee will evaluate articles submitted to WPEIF. The selected articles will be present in the workshop proceedings and have an oral presentation. At least one of the authors of each selected article must register at SBRC and WPEIF and present it at the event.
